What does Membership Offer?

Every member receives a quarterly Newsletter which contains articles on all aspects of Gauge One modelling including constructional advice for novices and experienced workers alike, details of forthcoming local and National events (including Get-togethers at member’s running tracks), write-ups on previous events and an active letters column. New Product information and Trade advertisements together with members’ Sales & Wants make for an interesting read.

New members receive details of the recommended Standard Dimensions for Gauge One . A Membership directory plus other useful information is also provided together with the current copy of the Newsletter & Journal to complete the New Members’ pack.

Members in the USA have their own representative who will handle all existing and new membership enquiries, receive annual subscriptions and handle G1MRA book sales. Contact Jim Curry jjc@structureguard.com or click here for further details and a printable membership form.

Will You Benefit from Membership?

We hope you will decide to join our Association, but it is only fair to point out some potential pitfalls. With the exception of the G Scale Continental or North American Narrow Gauge prototype, an off the shelf, ready to run Gauge One Railway does not exist unless you have very deep pockets and can afford to commission one! That doesn’t mean that everything has to be laboriously scratch built. Access to a workshop and skills with a lathe and basic tools will mean that you will be able to build your own locomotives. The "kitchen table" mechanic shouldn’t feel excluded, since much pleasure can be had by rebuilding a second hand model, whilst perhaps getting a more skilful member to "turn-up" a missing component or two. Also there is much pleasure to be had from assembling the growing number of kits coming onto the Market.

Within the UK there are several local groups who arrange Summer programmes of informal running sessions at members’ tracks. Winter activities may include layout construction, a film show or a speaker on some aspect of Model Railway or Railway interest.

Gauge One is often described as being at the cross-roads of Railway Modelling and Model Engineering. Happily the blend of skills and interests makes for an Association with a flavour all of its own.
