Caledonian Railway Lambie Class 13  4-4-0

Technical Specification: 

Scale 10 mm / ft.

Two cylinders 7/16” bore x 13/16” stroke.

Valve gear; Slip eccentric with direct drive to two vertical valves between the bores.

Pumps: Engine crosshead pump 3/32” ram x 13/16” stroke. Tender pump ¼” ram x ½” stroke.

Boiler: Project type boiler with wet backhead. “Working pressure 80lbs/sq in”.

Burner: Chickenfeed system with two ½” methylated spirit burners having “Carbon Fibre Wicks” which project ¾” above the burners.

Safety valves; “Two” 3/32” pop valves contained within a scale “Ramsbottom” safety valve case.

Lubrication; Regulator controlled displacement lubricator.

Chassis running gear; Engine: All wheels fully sprung, driving wheels double coil springs, rear coupled working leaf springs 19 leaves per side, bogie, encased leaf springs. Tender: working leaf springs 15 per axle box.

Weight: Engine 5lbs15oz’s. This equates to 75 scale tons approximately.

             Tender 3lbs13½oz’s.This equates to 48 ½ scale tons approximately.

Performance:

The model is capable of hauling 9 to 10 heavy coaches approximately 45 to 50 lbs on a dry rail and maintaining its boiler pressure with the bypass shut, gradually filling the boiler. Usually 6 or 7 coaches are the more normal formation or consist, well within its capabilities. Running time is 40 minutes fuel and 35 to 45 minutes water depending upon the load.
