The Nederlands Group

by Jaap Oudes

These pictures were taken at our gauge one layout at the Rail 2000 at den Bosch. Reactions of the management of Rail were enthusiastic and cooperative.

Our team is quite private and exhibits our whole collection of rolling stock and track etc. whilst every item is fully scratch built.
This fair can be found at the website www.rail.nl  however live steam is in the minority. Nevertheless it is great fun playing with our trains for three days!

(Captions are below the pictures)

In total 14 locomotives were in use, all scratch built by Koos Beekhuis, Ad Oudes and Jaap Oudes. All resemble Dutch designs of former Dutch railway companies. All are live steam, aging from 50 years old to brand new.

Jaap Oudes working with his new unpainted NCS 72. All track work is hand made making use of G1MRA  rail and white metal chairs.

The rolling stock is also hand made and represents former Dutch passenger stock. In order to create more atmosphere,  we built platforms and a passenger bridge. The teak stock represents formal Dutch Central commuter stock from the NCS.

Dutch NS 6100. The model has two working cylinders with slip eccentric valve gear.

Dutch HSM goods built by Koos Beekhuis. This engine is 40 years old and is still in active service. A simple straight forward single cylinder design with a Smithies boiler which has proved to be very reliable.

These are the guys from the Spoor 1 Genootschap . Jaap in pensive mood whilst father Ad Oudes is deeply involved in getting his engine into active service,  both being watched carefully by Koos Beekhuis ( a youthful 89 years old!).

Jaap firing up Koos' HSM goods engine. The audience is looking amazed!!!

Ad Oudes - a great inspirator! He is having a great time judging by his expression.

This is Jaap's new unpainted NCS 72 running at full speed with 9 coaches over the bridge. The bridge is 14 foot long and resembles a typical early Dutch Railway bridge design. The bridge is made of aluminium has a pleasant sound when the trains cross it.

(If you enjoyed these pictures, check out the finished Dutch NCS 72 in the featured locomotive section)
